GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI — The Gulfport community is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of 19-year-old Nykel Poole, who was killed in a shooting that also left two other individuals critically injured. His passing has left family, friends, and residents in deep grief as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent incident.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of 20th Street and 32nd Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Monday. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Nykel Poole suffering from what investigators believe was a single gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer confirmed that Poole was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:55 p.m.

In addition to Nykel, two other victims were discovered with gunshot injuries. One was airlifted to a hospital for urgent medical treatment, while the second was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital. Both individuals remain in critical condition as medical teams continue to provide care.

During the investigation, authorities indicated that the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute involving narcotics between the suspect and one of the victims. Police later arrested 34-year-old John Gaddis III of Gulfport without incident. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Nykel Poole’s death, as well as two counts of aggravated assault related to the injured victims. He is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $2 million bond as legal proceedings continue.

As investigators work to gather additional details, the community is left grappling with the sudden loss of a young life filled with potential. At just 19 years old, Nykel Poole’s future was tragically cut short, leaving behind grieving loved ones who are struggling to come to terms with the heartbreak of his passing.
